About this place
A visit to Itochi begins at the blackboard just past the door, where the day's tea selections are written out for browsing before you settle in. This compact kissaten focuses on aromatic black teas, rich milk teas, and unpretentious baked treats enjoyed in quiet surroundings. Milk tea arrives generously portioned in either a cup or a pot, offering a mellow palate and soothing fragrance well suited to a slow afternoon. Straight teas, Earl Grey, and iced tea au lait are joined by occasional seasonal offerings, such as drinks built around house-made orange-lemon syrup.
A natural match for the tea is the scone served with fruit jam. Its tender, airy crumb and the tart sweetness of the preserve balance both the astringency of plain tea and the richness of milk tea. Counter displays also feature scones and other rustic bakes that can be purchased to take home for tea time later.
Traditional folk craft figures such as kokeshi dolls decorate the room, while wall-facing counters and a few tables allow quiet space for reading or concentrating on the drink in hand. Remembering to decide your order at the board before taking a seat makes for a smooth, pleasant solo or pair visit.
